As the ostentatious Clemete Rodriguez, he is the lynchpin guiding the inimitable funk stylings of The Cuban Brothers but most recently he has been causing something of a stir, gathering together the breadth of his influences for a divine take on mixology, as Different Strokes. Liberal helpings of soul-powered funk, block-rocking hip-hop and of course, some ass-shaking Latin beats are the core to a sound that is marking him out as one of the most in-demand selectors around. As Russ Cuban his grinding house sets have been tearing up the festival circuit, including a legendary performance at this year’s Rock Ness festival. With a uniquely alchemic ability to slip TV theme tunes, live samples and classic a cappellas over some majestically cut-up grooves, Russ has created a startlingly fresh brew that has catapulted him to the pinnacle of his game.
A regular guest DJ spot at Rob da Bank’s legendary Sunday Best parties has seen Russ sharing the platters with Basement Jaxx, Groove Armada and Norman Cook AKA Fatboy Slim who has proclaimed Russ as one of his favourite DJs with the pair DJing together at nights including Manumission and Lush!
Aside from his DJing Russ has seen his production working growing with his exclusive re-edits rocking the boxes of all the top boys, with his latest cut-up ’99 Wonders’ getting ‘Boot of the Week’ love on Eddy Temple-Morris’s Xfm Show.
