MERRY CHRISTMAS GHETTO FUNK FAMILY!

I hope everyone has had a great day.. food, presents, getting pinched on the cheek by an aunty and hailed with questions about your personal life? Oh dear!

One Week left in 2012, and what a great year it’s been! I really am quite excited about next year though, I have a feeling it’s going to be a HUGE year for all of us who enjoy our music so much, whether you make it, mix it, dance to it or just FEEL it dammit! I think we ALL have a lot to look forward to in the new year, who’s with me?!

So as promised I decided to bring to you my top 5 mixes of 2012 which was very very hard to select, and i’m sure you will have some of these mixes already but that’s hardly surprising due to how good I think they are! I’m not doing it in any particular order though, that would make this process even harder than it is. I havn’t had my Christmas dinner yet as I almost always go into a food comber afterwards so decided I better get these out first! So here goes.. and PLEASE be so kind as to leave the artists a thank-you and I would be over the moon if you could share this post around with everyone that you think might enjoy it

First mix comes from a fellow Kiwi, a hip-hop king who’s mixes I have always been a huge fan of.. his soundcloud account is full of them too.. from hip-hop to ghetto funk, funk and soul to reggae.. if you don’t know about them yet I suggest you get busy right now! All Luke’s mixes are recorded live from the decks, most likely in a one take fashion.. the man has skills and its pretty damn obvious once you get listening to his stuff. The mix I have chosen to put up from him probably got the most plays on my ipod over summer.. but I wont bang on about it anymore.. download it and find out for yourself. Next up is a man who’s name has been getting very well known for his excellent production skills and he has had a HUGE year this year with some great releases, the most recent being one of my favourite tracks from the first Scour Records release.. big ups to Joe Revell!

This mix is just a short one, but it’s well thought out and well mixed.. and the best part is it’s one of three in the same style! Now to step it up with some Ghetto Funk banger action! Theres no need for me to tell you who Featurecast is.. and any praise I give him still won’t be enough as he is one of my favourite producers who never ceases to amaze us with his mixes and great tracks. The main reason I want to get myself to Shambhala festival in Canada is to experience one of Stickybuds sets, listening to them afterwards it’s obvious how much work and thought he puts into them, hand crafted like a work of art! I was lucky enough to see him play at Sunrise Festival this year in the UK and it was definitely one of the best Ghetto Funk experiences of my life, always ahead of the game when it comes to his tracks, I cant wait to see what he has in store for us for 2013. Last but not least, another person who needs no introduction, and one of the nicest blokes I have had the pleasure of meeting in the Ghetto Funk family.. B-Side put out an amazing mix this summer which I love listening to as it takes me back to some of the gigs I saw him play this year, which were nothing short of EPIC every time! A huge inspiration to all Ghetto Funk producers, DJ’s and bacon lovers, make sure you check out the free tunes he dropped on us recently as well.. not to be missed! Thats it from me for 2012 folks, choosing a mix for you each week is no easy task as I have been sent in a LOT of mixes that I havn’t found the opportunity to post, so just a quick thank you to everyone that has sent them in, I have enjoyed listening to every single one of them and please keep them coming. Have a safe New Years Eve, make sure you are surrounded by good music and friends and lets try to make next year as memorable as this one was.
