SAMMY SENIOR’S MIXTAPE DIG #40

MixtapeDig

Funk Fam how ya’ll doin? Halloween is fast approaching, get ya costumes on, get ya belly full of booze and hit the dancefloor! That’s my plan anyway.. with a cheeky set on the decks in Bristol at Wonka Vision presents Escape from Zombie island which I believe is sold out.. Dayam that’s exciting!

This weeks mix is a heavy hitter.. it’s not for the faint hearted, and if you plan on listening to it while running, be very wary of the fact that you might end up head banging, which is quite hazardous.. I had it up extremely loud at work and probably received some strange looks, possibly not the music though, I was busy trying to head bang and simultaneously pull off some footloose moves with a circular saw in my hand. ANYWAY

The man behind this magic little mix is a bit of a legend to say the least, being so bloody humble you may not know what he’s about, but you should.. so have a quick read and get the lowdown on Mustbeat records, Budapest and the man that is DJ Clairvo

SAMMY: Clairvo, for those that don’t know you, tell us a bit about yourself.. What music you play, what nights/label etc you run and where you do it all from!

CLAIRVO: Ok, those few ones who know me on international level, shall be due to my activities as an artist of MustBeat Crew. We deliver funky-breaks, nu-funk and hip-hop songs and remixes for independent music labels such as Breakbeat Paradise Recordings, Timewarp Music, Resense Records, Grits’n’Gravy or Tru:Funk just to name a few…

Some could also come across with the name MustBeat on the pages of Beatport or Juno as I’m also running a music label with this name.

Locally, I’m more known for being a DJ as I’ve been making the ends meet since 1996 by spinning music! During the years, me and also MustBeat Crew have been organizing, holding and running too many event-series and parties to drag out any, I’d rather mention just the recent club-nights called Freestyle Extravaganza, which one we had guests with such as Jayl Funk, Timothy Wisdom & Busta, Zamali, Some DJ, Johnny Pluse, Basement Freaks, Pale Penguin, Jiggy Joe and the ones I’m forgettin’ right now… :)

As the name of this series goes to show, we play music that we like, regardless of the genre. As long as it makes the people dance and have fun, we’re all fine with the mainstream of the underground and the underground of the mainstream…

SAMMY: That’s a lot going on.. you are one talented dude!.. S0 what is the scene like out there in budapest? It’s a popular place for people to visit.. if they come out there where can they find good music and parties?

CLAIRVO: Anywhere!! :) Seriously, depending on your taste – the city delivers something for everyone: let it be a dope future hip-hop night in club Kolor on a Monday, or a mind tearing d’n’b rave at Corivntető on a Wednesday, or a fancy lounge listening in Minyon Bar on a Thursday, or a proper ghetto-funk jam at club Instant on a Friday, or an up-to-date midtempo breaks banging at Fogasház on a Saturday, or a calm easy listening electronica at Mika Tivadar Mulato on a Sunday; the city nearly has everything for everybody!

SAMMY: Thats it.. i’m moving to budapest, you really sell it! This is quite a heavy mix you have given us but you play a HUGE diversity of styles and genres.. what is your favourite at the moment?

CLAIRVO: Hahaha, cheeky to say it here, but as a DJ, I’m still in mad love with ghetto-funk and party hip-hop grooves.

SAMMY: Not cheeky at all my friend! What have we got to look forward to from you that is coming out soon?

CLAIRVO: Have done a hip-hop-ish remix for Leygo recently, also a funkier little remix of an Andy Taylor track hopefully coming out soon on a Wass 12”… Also planning to represent a more afro-beat based EP for Royal Soul Records alongside a proper funky-breaks single for Timewarp Music…

Labelwise; eer, well; after a small summer halt, there are lotsa releases in the pipeline and I’m quite happy to be involved working with such great artists in this quarter of the year as Quincy Jointz, J-Sound, Qdup, The Worldstylers and obviously, all the local budapest based talents we’ve always been and will be working with…

SAMMY: Lots to look forward to then, thank you so much for this mix and for sharing all this info with the listeners.. It’s a pleasure to have you on the dig and hopefully I will see you in budapest this year (ya never know)

Here are a few links to keep up with Clairvo and Mustbeat records, please drop a thanks if you download the mix.. it always goes a long way.
