Hey Funkers! WOW there have been a few big mixes put up on the blog today.. got room for one more? great! This one’s a corker, probably one of the best mixes i’ve found this summer, and it’s been laid down by one of my favourite producer/dj’s the one and only Roast Beatz!

Instead of rambling on about a load of useless nonsense today I’ve decided to step it up, here’s a little interview with Leo for you to find out what’s going on with him, big things apparently!

Sammy: What has been your favourite set played this summer and also your favourite gig you have been to?

Roast: Favourite gig would definitely be BoomTown. Just the fact I was playing in the tape cassette of a massive Ghetto Blaster on the Boom box stage. I warmed up for Ed Solo early summer. That was a dope crowd and I was happy with my set. High light gigs I’ve been to, would probably be Boomtown again. I got to see The Allergies and The Mouse outfit. I’m working with The Allergies and Syntax on separate projects and have massive respect for them so good to see the Allergies do their thing and to see Syntax with a live band.

Sammy: Gutted that I missed Boomtown this year, your set last year was wicked! For all us geeks out there, what setup do you use to produce and dj with?

Roast: Production wise I use Logic 9 with various plugins and instruments, M audio 49 e midi controller, records, 2 turntables and a lot of patience! DJ wise: 1210’s, serato, dicers. I’m all for new, innovative tools for production and DJ’ing I just grew up scratching on 2 decks with wax, so the minimalist approach works for me.

Sammy: What’s been favouring your ears lately..what have you been listening to?

Roast: The Allergies new TY remix is getting a battering right now, loads of fresh stuff on the Nice up label from Mr Benn and J star. Riddim Fruit have never put anything out I don’t like, so I’m always supporting my label! I know Tom Showtime and Maars are working on another Chippa Irie EP which will be amazing I’m still bumping their last in my sets. Dead player’s album sounds fresh, El Bomba always provides the heat and I know he’s got some new tricks up his sleeve. Rag and Bone man and leaf dog are in heavy rotation alongside Action Bronson, Quasimoto, Tall black guy, Roc Marciano and Odisee for the hip hop fix. Not a day goes by I’m not on the hunt for new tracks, I guess that’s how we stay ahead of the game!

Sammy: Can’t argue with that! Who’s up and coming we should look out for?

Roast: Not so much up and coming but the people I recommend you go and buy their music are: Nu-mark, Jim Sharp, Chris Read, Badboe, Maars, Dephicit, Tom Showtime, Mako and the Hawk, Inko, Jimi Needles, Kill Emil, Fort Knox Five, Mr Bird, DJ P, J sound, J star, Mr Benn. Too many to mention off the top of the dome!

Sammy: Props to ya homies.. that’s what we love to see in our music world! And lastly, what do we have to look forward to that’s coming out soon from YOU?

Roast: A fair bit thankfully! Next month my EP on Riddim Fruit is dropping followed by a remix EP. It features: Action Bronson, Jehst, brotherman, Stig of the dump, Rtkal, Dabbla and Phoenix da Icefire. Then I have the Ghetto Soul EP coming through on BBP records. This features Dizzy Dustin, Kylie Earl and Crystal Carter with remixes from: Tom Showtime, DJ Rudd and The Allergies. Then my album drops with a whole load of features from Syntax, Too many Tees, Manic, Koaste, Mystro….After that I have Ep’s in the works with Manic, Syntax, Koaste and Gobshite. No sign of slowing down soon! Just keeping it moving and looking to hopefully do some more shows, travel a bit and buy more sneakers!
