The Funk Hunters ‘Weekly Mixtape Dig’ # 23

Merry Christmas Ghetto Funk Nation! It’s Christmas eve, so it seemed fitting to squeeze in a quick Merry Mix Dig for you all! This will be our last regular dig of 2011 as next week we’ll be closing out the digging duties with our top mixes of the year! With so many amazing mixes put out in 2011, its gonna be tough to narrow it down!

Off the top this week is an all Vinyl Christmas (not really though) mix from Vancouver native, Woodhead! You may know Woodhead from his funky releases on Punchout Records or maybe you’ve had the pleasure of seeing him throw down in Canada at Basscoast or Shambhala Festivals. Woodhead is one of our favourite DJ’s and is a top notch fellow to boot! And his “Fake Christmas all Vinyl Funk Mix” is exactly that… throw this one on beside the fireplace tomorrow morning and bring in JC’s B-day with the FUNK!

While an unusual mild winter is upon us here in Canada the southern part of the globe is right into summer! Our last mix this week comes from our good friend and frequent production collaborator of The Funk Hunters, Canosis… aka Dave, or “Rollie” as we like to call him. Rollie’s whipped up a tasty little summer treat entitled “Katui St.” We know he’s just left his current stomping grounds of Whistler and headed home to NZ for the summer…So we can only assume he’s living on Katui St now making shit hot bangers in the morning and recording mixtapes in the afternoon. On this particular Katui Street afternoon Ol’ Dave was feeling some mild summery hip hop, soul, and a nice dose of drum & bass! A tight little mix indeed…Big Ups Rollie, say hi to the Sunshine for us :)

Thats all for this week.. we’ll be back in a few days with our top mix picks of 2011! Merry Christmas & thank you all for your continued support and for checking out our weekly digs!

Dunks & The Outlier :)

Do you have a new mix you want to get out to the masses? Send it our way and if we “Dig” it , we will add it to our weekly posts!

* Please note we are looking for mixes that have REPLAY VALUE or promo mixes that feature original productions and include download links! We will avoid posting mixes in the same week with similar track listings and we will be posting mixes of various genres and styles. If its funky, groovy, hippity hoppity, dubstepy, drum&bassy, downtempoey, or just plain rockin the fuck out, then send your suggestions to [email protected]

Till next week, happy hunting ghetto funkers :)
