The Funk Hunters ‘Weekly Mixtape Dig’ #4

Hey Ghetto Funkers!

Welcome to the fourth edition of our weekly mix dig! We are back in the studio this week after an epic 2400 KM road trip last weekend that led us through 2 provinces and a bunch of festivals around Western Canada. We managed to loan a sweet vehicle for the trip, equipped with a solid 9 speaker sound system bumping plenty of dope mixtapes which made the trip a breeze! This week we wanted to post 3 mixes that really helped out our journey last weekend as long drives can be tough especially after a long night 😉

Here’s a quick flash of some adventures on the road this weekend, scroll down for the mixes:

Okay, so kicking things off this week on an upbeat note is a brand new summer mix from the Boston-based, Whisky Barons. Staying true to their eclectic tastes, the mix spans disco funk, latin, soul, and includes plenty of Whisky Barons edits to get the party started, while some classic golden era hip hop finishes things off! If we had a prohibition on funk, this mix would be a speakeasy favorite!

Next up is the Nottingham, UK-based, Animistics crew offering a much needed change of pace and vibe for when you are logging some serious mileage on the road (or even in the office). We only recently discovered these guys, and to be honest still don’t know much about them. But the mixtape at the top of their soundcloud page entitled simply “Animistics Mix Oct 2010″ is one of the most beautiful future garage/bass/2-step/brokenbeat collections we’ve ever heard. Seamlessly blending some of their own original productions and remixes alongside artists like James Blake, Silkie, B-Bravo, and Mount Kimbie, this mix ooozes sophisticated future-bass vibes and is currently a personal favorite!

To finish off this weeks dig, we want to share with you an all vinyl downtempo chill mix from a close friend of ours, Audiostealth. He’s been collecting vinyl and DJing as long as we’ve known him and boasts one of the most impressive vinyl collections we’ve ever seen. A perfect mix to start or end your day with a long drive or flight ahead of you. “Dusty Downtempo” features some beautiful music from classic artists such as Bob Marley, Boozo Bajoo, Talk Talk, Johnny Cash, Black Sabbath, and The Doors. Hmmm, seems like we say this alot, but this mix comes highly recommended!!! No seriously though, take notice, this one’s been on the FunkHunting-Road-Pod for a couple years now and has clocked some serious speaker time. Dusty Downtempo may just save you the next time your eyes are shutting on a long journey :-)

Do you have a new mix you want to get out to the masses? Send it our way and if we “Dig” it , we will add it to our weekly posts!

* Please note we are looking for mixes that have REPLAY VALUE or promo mixes that feature original productions and include download links! We will avoid posting mixes in the same week with similar track listings and we will be posting mixes of various genres and styles. If its funky, groovy, hippity hoppity, dubstepy, drum&bassy, downtempoey, or just plain rockin the fuck out, then send your suggestions to [email protected]

Till next week, happy hunting ghetto funkers :)
